Text Box: Part 1 indicated you could be shampooing your hair with the main ingredient used in engine degreaser, garage floor cleaner & car wash soap if you use products that include Sodium Laurel Sulphate (SLS). A lot of them do, check the bottle of your shampoo.

Now consider Propylene Glycol - it’s the main ingredient in anti freeze & brake fluid but it is also used extensively in personal care & cosmetics products. 

Research has shown that Propylene Glycol is dangerous according to the following results of research.

Studies show that Propylene Glycol: - 

Is absorbed into skin & scalp & accumulates in the heart, liver,& 
kidneys causing damage & weakening of the immune system. 
Is capable of creating skin reactions, allergic sensitivities, 
including dermatitis, rashes & dry skin.
In low levels of concentration can cause reactions & skin irritation.
Manufactures material safety data sheet designed to protect people warns to avoid contact to avoid contact with the skin.

Propylene Glycol is on of the major ingredients in skin care products surely there has to be some doubt about the safety  of this chemical. 

If it were just two dangerous chemical we had to be cautious about it would be easy to select  safe personal care products. The problem is there are hundreds, here are just a few others including summaries of the dangers.

Alcohol: Used in mouth wash is another thing to avoid. It has been discovered that 25% or more in a formulation increases the risk of mouth, throat & tongue cancer. 

Aluminium: Used in most antiperspirants. Aluminium is linked to Alzheimers disease. It has been identified as a neurotoxin & interferes with chemical reactions in the brain. 

DEA, TEA, MEA: Look for these abbreviations on your products they are real nasties with the following dangers. These will accumulate in organs, causes skin & eye irritation. When combined with other chemical can form nitrosamines which can be potentially carcinogenic. 

Formaldehyde: A preservative for many cosmetics. It is known to cause eye nose & throat irritation, coughing, asthma attacks, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, skin rashes, nose bleeds, headaches & dizziness. 

Talc: Is linked to an increase in ovarian cancer, respiratory problems & should never be used on babies due to carcinogenic potential & acute respiratory  danger.

Toluene: A solvent used in nail enamels, hair spray, hair gel, perfumes & fragrances. The dangers are it stimulates asthma attacks, can cause nervous system irregularities & can cause liver damage & can be an endocrine disrupter.
